Aware of the widespread impatience, he specified that the body would ensure that “the arbitration proceedings can be conducted as quickly as possible, while respecting the right of all parties to a fair trial.”
This intervention marks the beginning of the end of a saga that has lasted for more than two months, following a chaotic final marred by incidents and the Senegalese team's abandonment of the pitch. While no official timetable has yet been submitted, the CAS verdict will be final: neither nation will have any further recourse to contest the final decision.
This breakthrough in Lausanne (the seat of the Court of Arbitration for Sport) was made possible by a major development at the Confederation of African Football (CAF). After a three-week wait, the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) finally received, just before the weekend, the reasoned decision of the CAF Appeals Committee, as revealed by RMC on Monday.
This document was the crucial missing piece needed for Senegal to officially contest Morocco's 3-0 victory by default. In its findings, the CAF appeals committee upheld the score in favor of the Atlas Lions, while declining to comment on the awarding of bonuses, medals, and the trophy, deeming it outside its jurisdiction.
Since that initial ruling, the CAF Executive Committee has maintained a surprising silence, never officially announcing the winner of the 2025 edition. The Confederation's president has simply stated that he now defers to the wisdom of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Senegal now holds all the cards to try and overturn a decision that, for the time being, denies the Lions a continental title on the pitch.
