«Si je revenais, ce serait à Liverpool»: Jürgen Klopp ne ferme pas la porte à un retour à Anfield

More than a year after leaving Liverpool, Jürgen Klopp, now director of football at Red Bull, discussed in a podcast the theoretical possibility of a return to Anfield, while revealing that he turned down Manchester United in 2013.

More than a year after leaving Liverpool, Jürgen Klopp continues to maintain a special bond with the club that defined his career . A guest on the Diary of a CEO podcast, the German coach didn't completely rule out a possible return to Anfield. "I said I would never coach another team in England, which means if I came back, it would be to Liverpool. So, yes, theoretically, it's possible," he said.

Before immediately qualifying: "I love what I do now. I don't miss being a coach. I don't miss standing in the rain for two and a half or three hours. I also don't miss going to press conferences three times a week."

"I turned down Manchester United in 2013"

Although he now enjoys his role as football boss at Red Bull , Klopp remains attached to Liverpool, where he spent 9 seasons (489 matches), notably winning the Champions League in 2019 and a Premier League in 2020.

In the same podcast, Klopp returned to a lesser-known episode in his career: his refusal to join Manchester United in 2013, shortly after Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement. "The year Sir Alex Ferguson retired, they contacted me (Manchester United). Of course, they were interested," said the former Borussia Dortmund manager.

"They tried. It wasn't the right time. I had a contract at Dortmund and I wouldn't have left for anyone at that time," he added. There were several reasons for his refusal, including a strong disagreement with the proposed project: "The people I spoke to told me things I didn't like. Manchester United was so big: 'We have all the players we want. We have this player, that player, that player...' And I was sitting there... That wasn't my project."
