Soupçons de corruption à la CAF : Patrice Motsepe qualifie les accusations du Sénégal de « fausses et sans fondements »
On a visit to Rabat after a short stay in Senegal, the president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Patrice Motsepe denied on Thursday, April 9, the suspicions of corruption within the CAF formulated by the Senegalese government after the withdrawal of the African championship title from his team in favor of Morocco.
“If someone wants to take legal action alleging corruption at CAF, I not only welcome it, but I encourage it. There is nothing to hide,” Motsepe said at a press conference in Salé, near the Moroccan capital, Rabat, calling the Senegalese government’s accusations “false and unfounded.”
Indeed, reacting to the decision of the CAF appeals jury which declared the Senegalese team to have forfeited the final and ratified Morocco's victory by default by 3-0, the Senegalese government called on March 18 for "an international investigation into suspicions of corruption within the CAF's governing bodies".
Regarding the appeal filed by the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) with the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, Mr. Motsepe welcomed the move. "These issues related to the final are behind us […] because the case is pending," Mr. Motsepe emphasized, stating that "whatever the CAS decision, we will respect and implement it."
Furthermore, regarding the 18 Senegalese supporters sentenced in the first instance to prison terms ranging from three months to one year for "hooliganism" during the "chaotic" final of the 2025 AFCON, he indicated that he "respects the judicial sovereignty of Morocco".
