Supporters sénégalais détenus au Maroc : La réaction du Djaraf Youssou Ndoye
Papa Youssou Ndoye, Djaraf of Ouakam, called on the State of Senegal to act diligently to secure the release of Senegalese supporters detained in Morocco following the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN).
The outcome of this historic final, which crowned Senegal African champions, unfortunately led to tensions between Senegalese and Moroccan supporters in the host country. Clashes were reported, resulting in the arrest of several Senegalese nationals in Morocco.
Reacting to these events, the Djaraf of Ouakam expressed his profound dismay. "I deplore what happened in Rabat after that hard-fought final between Morocco and Senegal. It should never have come to this. Sportsmanship and fair play should have prevailed over chauvinistic behavior. The AFCON should have been a celebration of African football, not a moment of confrontation between African brothers," he lamented.
Papa Youssou Ndoye called on the Senegalese authorities to actively intervene to secure the release of those arrested and to ensure adequate care for the injured. "The Senegalese state must do everything in its power to obtain the immediate release of our compatriots and ensure that the injured receive assistance. These incidents tarnish Africa's image," he insisted.
Recalling the historical ties between Senegal and Morocco, the supreme chief of the Lebou community of Ouakam and Greater Cape Verde called for the preservation of this heritage. "Morocco is a brotherly country, linked to Senegal by centuries-old relations. As the land of Sheikh Ahmed Tidjane Cherif, it has a duty to continue projecting a positive image in Africa and throughout the world. Let us not jeopardize this shared heritage," he concluded.
