Programme fitness UCAD — lancement activités sportives campus
Cheikh Anta Diop University (UCAD) in Dakar has officially launched its new fitness activities program, an initiative spearheaded by the university's Sports Department to promote regular physical activity within the campus community.
The launch ceremony was attended by university officials. For Ndarao Mbengue, a professor and the Director of Sports at UCAD, this event marks a significant milestone in the awareness campaign that began with the department's creation.
"This initiative aims to help the university community reconnect with sports," he explained. He highlighted a concerning rise in sedentary behavior, characterized by long hours spent sitting or lying down, with notable consequences for health.
To address this, the Sports Department has adopted an inclusive approach, targeting all university members. Activities have been established for children through a sports school, for students via competitions, and for administrative and teaching staff through fitness sessions and other disciplines.
The fitness program runs three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Two time slots are offered: from 12 PM to 2 PM for participants on break, and from 5:30 PM to 7 PM for those who wish to train after their professional activities.
Given the enthusiastic response, with nearly a hundred participants from the start, organizers are already considering expanding the program. If demand continues to grow, activities could be decentralized to other campus sites, notably at Hall A and the Polytechnic School (ESP).
