« Une autre compétition commence » : Pape Thiaw appelle à la vigilance avant le prochain rendez-vous
On the eve of a crucial match, coach Pape Thiaw delivered a message of caution at a press conference. When questioned about the opponent's attacking statistics during the group stage – a team that failed to score a single goal, apart from an own goal against Equatorial Guinea – the Senegalese coach sought to put things into perspective.
"For us, another competition begins. Statistics don't mean much at this stage. We're not going to base anything on them," he stated, warning against any form of complacency.
Far from minimizing the threat, Pape Thiaw emphasized the collective quality of the opposing team, which he already knows very well.
"They are a disciplined, well-organised team, which we have already faced. They have shown some very good things, especially during the World Cup qualifiers, where they held first place for a long time," he recalled.
Deprived of their captain and defensive stalwart, the team will have to reorganize. The coach is approaching this situation with composure and responsibility.
"Of course we would like him to be on the field, but that's not the case. Now, it's the team that counts. He won't be there physically, but he will always be with us through his mindset and the person he is."
The coach even emphasized that the group will also fight to allow their captain to return in the next rounds of the competition.
