Walid Acherchour : "Le Sénégal ne remportera pas la CAN 2025 parce que..."
The French-Algerian journalist believes Senegal will not go all the way in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco (December 21, 2025 to January 19, 2026). Even though he agrees that the Lions of Teranga have the best team on paper, Walid Acherchour thinks it will ultimately be Mohamed Salah's Egypt that will be crowned champions.
"Senegal winning the AFCON? No way. Just like Morocco. I was torn in my choice, but I'm going for Egypt. That's my feeling. Because this Egyptian team is very hard to knock out of a competition. In recent years, they've only been beaten on penalties. The Egyptian league remains very, very strong, especially in African competitions. And Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush, who spent the first 6 months of the season in anonymity, will come to Morocco with their teeth whetted," predicted Walid Acherchour on the Winamax FC show.
Worse still, according to the journalist and columnist, Pape Thiaw's men won't make it past the quarter-finals. "In my predictions, I see a quarter-final between Senegal and Tunisia. With their defensive solidity, the Tunisians will knock out the Senegalese," he says.
During this program dedicated exclusively to predictions for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Acherchour predicted a final victory for a team from the North of the continent. "I am convinced that this AFCON will be won by a North African country. I don't see Morocco because of the pressure, not Algeria which is still behind, not Tunisia which has problems in attack. But, I do see Egypt," he added.
Regarding Senegal, the journalist has some reservations. "Senegal's squad is daunting, but you don't win an AFCON with just a squad. There are two questions I have. The first concerns Pape Thiaw. How will he manage his (first) AFCON? He's handled the situation well since his appointment, but he arrived as an interim coach. The second question concerns the management of Sadio Mané. As with Mahrez and Algeria, we'll have to see how he manages Mané and their roles within the team because there are plenty of options, especially in attack," he analyzes.
It should be noted that on the Winamax FC panel, the other 3 consultants, namely Tidiany M'bo, Elton Mokolo and Najim Medini, all chose Senegal as the future winner in their predictions.

Je vois mal les grands favoris,surtout le Sénégal ,remporter cette CAN.
Je miserai sur un aoutsader et non pas sur les équipes attendues.
Pour la cas du Sénégal;mettre Sadio partant 80 mn est une erreur,il faut le laisser sur le banc et mettre jeune frais capable de tenir un rythme physique élevé pendant 90 mn ;et travailler la finition devant les buts.

Vaut mieux éviter le statut de favori. C’est trop facile. Bravo à ce journaliste qui prédit l’Egypte. C’est bien ! Il y a eu tellement de surprises dans les CAN passées ! Qui a parié sur la Côte d’Ivoire à la dernière CAN?
