A few days after Senegal's brilliant qualification for a third consecutive World Cup, Senegal's players returned to European action. Sadio Mané, who scored twice in the qualifying match, once again distinguished himself at club level with two assists. In Belgium, Ousseynou Niang scored and provided an assist for Union Saint-Gilloise, while in France, Yehvann Diouf showed heroic form by saving a penalty.
In France
On Matchday 8 of Ligue 1, Nice, with Antoine Mendy and Yehvann Diouf starting, beat Moussa Niakhaté's Lyon (3-2). Solid defensively, Mendy delivered a fine performance, while Diouf saved a penalty from Maitland-Niles (53rd) which sealed the victory for Nice.

Lorient, with Abdoulaye Faye starting and Sambou Soumano and Bamba Dieng coming on in the second half, held Stade Brestois to a 3-3 draw. Soumano salvaged the point by equalizing from a pass from Dieng (89th).
Finally, Metz of Cheikh Tidiane Sabaly and Habib Diallo sank in Toulouse (4-0).
In England
For the 8th day of the Premier League, Everton, despite a sparkling Iliman Ndiaye and Idrissa Gana Guèye starting, lost to Manchester City (2-0).
At home, Pape Matar Sarr's Tottenham were stunned by Aston Villa (1-2). The Senegalese midfielder, who came on in the final five minutes, was unable to prevent his team's defeat.
