Senegal's Justice Minister, Yassine Fall, has spoken out against the African Football Confederation's (CAF) decision to annul the Lions of Teranga's 2025 Africa Cup of Nations victory and award the title to Morocco on a technicality.
"The government of Senegal was shocked to see this decision from CAF," asserted the Minister of Justice. In an interview with the BBC today, she called the ruling "illegal and unjust."
According to Yassine Fall, this is a clear violation of the very regulations CAF claims to have based its decision on. This is why, the Minister stated, Senegal has decided to take the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
She emphasized that when a referee calls players back onto the pitch, "supervises the match, and validates the score, it must be accepted." "But to go back and overturn that result is truly shocking," she reiterated.
