CAF : Augustin Senghor regrette Issa Hayatou
Reacting in L'Observateur to the withdrawal of the 2025 African Championship title from Senegal in favor of Morocco, the former president of the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) Augustin Senghor believes that this affair reflects the "dysfunctions" that have plagued the CAF for some years.
“The problems are numerous,” he argues. “At the governance level, we have problems. Regarding administrative governance, I’ve spoken about all these problems: these appointments, these dismissals currently taking place at CAF, which no one is controlling. […] We don’t have a clear policy regarding the direction we should be taking.”
This situation leads the lawyer to express regret for the former Cameroonian head of African football who died in 2017: "Since the departure of President Hayatou [Issa], we have not been able to turn things around, to the point that FIFA is often on our side, in many areas."
The Cameroonian led the CAF from 1988 to 2017. The Malagasy Ahmad Ahmad succeeded him between 2017 and 2020 and then in 2021, after the brief interim of the Congolese (DRC) Constant Omari, before the South African Patrice Motsepe was elected the same year.
