Egypte : Le gardien d’Al Ahly, El-Shenawy, agresse un arbitre
He was known for his calm temperament. The goalkeeper for the legendary Egyptian club Al Ahly of Cairo completely lost it last Tuesday, assaulting one of the referees officiating the match between Al Ahly and Ceramica Cleopatra of Giza.
It all started in stoppage time of this hard-fought match. The Cairo players appealed for a penalty after an incident in the opposing penalty area. They believed a Ceramica player had handled the ball. The referee refused to award a penalty.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw. Angry, the Al Ahly players protested to the refereeing team. Mohamed El Shenawy shoved one of the officials and received a red card.
The Egyptian Professional Football League also severely sanctioned him by imposing a 4-match suspension and a fine of 50,000 Egyptian pounds (524,765 CFA francs).
El Shenawy, the starting goalkeeper for the Egyptian national team, is expected to take part in the World Cup next June with the Pharaohs.
