The sports daily L'Équipe has published its annual ranking of Ligue 1 salaries. Unsurprisingly, Ballon d'Or winner Ousmane Dembélé tops the list with €1.5 million per month. The highest-ranked African player is his teammate, Achraf Hakimi.

An annual ranking that is always closely scrutinized. The sports daily L'Équipe published its annual report on Ligue 1 salaries on Thursday, April 2nd.

As every year, PSG takes the lion's share, concentrating the 14 highest salaries in the French league, with Ousmane Dembélé, crowned Ballon d'Or winner last September, at the top.

The capital club also boasts the highest-paid African player in Ligue 1, Morocco's captain Achraf Hakimi. Furthermore, OM is a veritable Eldorado for African players, with four of them in this top 7.

On the other side of the Channel, in England, it is the Egyptian Mohammed Salah (Liverpool) who is currently the highest paid African footballer in the Premier League with two million euros per month, just behind the Norwegian machine Erling Haaland and his 2,630,000 euros at Manchester City.

1. Achraf Hakimi (Morocco, PSG)

With a gross monthly salary estimated at €1.1 million, Achraf Hakimi is simply the third-highest earner in Ligue 1. Considered the best right-back in the world, he is also the highest paid. At PSG, the 2025 African champion (awarded by default) is a key player as captain.

2. Geoffrey Kondogbia (Central African Republic, OM)

At OM, the midfield is a goldmine. While Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is the highest-paid footballer outside of PSG, his Central African teammate Geoffrey Kondogbia isn't doing too badly either. With €450,000 a month, he's the third-highest-paid player at OM. Having lacked confidence under Roberto De Zerbi, he's now a regular starter under Habib Beye. A status somewhat more in line with his astronomical salary.

3. Nayef Aguerd (Morocco, OM)

The "Lion of the Atlas" didn't come to Marseille for scraps. Arriving from West Ham, the Moroccan center-back earns around €400,000 gross per month. A colossal investment for OM, but one that their new signing is more than repaying as the leader of the defense. A natural leader of the group, he has established himself as a pillar of the Marseille squad.

4. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Gabon, OM)

During his first stint at OM, he earned over €600,000 a month. After his time in Saudi Arabia, from which he returned on a free transfer, the 36-year-old Gabonese player had to make a significant financial sacrifice to regain his place in Marseille. He now earns "only" €350,000 a month. With eight goals and six assists, he remains the reliable guarantor of the OM attack and proves year after year that talent knows no age.

5. Sofiane Diop (Morocco, OGC Nice)

In a Nice club undergoing a major restructuring, Sofiane Diop's salary stands out. At 25, the Moroccan is the club's highest-paid player, earning €350,000 per month. He was propelled to this position after the departure of the highest earners, while owner Ineos is desperately trying to sell the club.

6. Hamed Junior Traoré (Ivory Coast, OM)

Marseille is clearly a goldmine for African players. After a brilliant year at AJ Auxerre, he caught the eye of Roberto Di Zerbi. On loan from Bournemouth with a near-mandatory purchase option set at around eight million euros, he earns 320,000 euros per month. However, his first year in Marseille has been far from satisfactory so far, due to injuries.

7. Moussa Niakhaté (Senegal, OL)

The only Lyon player in this ranking, the Senegalese defender brings up the rear with a gross salary of €300,000 per month. Signed for a hefty fee from Nottingham Forest to stabilize a Lyon defense that was often under pressure, Niakhaté is now one of OL's key players.
