Pape Thiaw : « Il y a du Metsu dans son management »
Interviewed by L'Observateur, Alassane Ndour and Khalilou Fadiga spoke about Pape Thiaw. For his former teammates from the 2002 generation, the coach of the Lions of Senegal embodies the natural continuity of his human values and his commitment both on and off the field.
Aliou Cissé's successor is described by Ndour, his former roommate at AS Saint-Étienne, as a "beautiful soul," sincere and loyal. His nickname, "The Calligrapher," reflects his meticulous nature: whether it's perfecting his handwriting or shaving his teammates in training, he demonstrates exemplary precision and punctuality.
The "magical left-hander" of the 2002 Lions completes this portrait by highlighting his jovial character, his humor and his ability to unite the locker room.
On the pitch, Thiaw was an atypical and modern striker, a technically gifted pivot capable of playing with both feet and dominant in the air. He shone with his intelligent link-up play and his generosity, sacrificing himself to help his teammates like El Hadji Diouf and Fadiga shine. Less in the public eye than some stars, he nevertheless distinguished himself in key moments, notably with his famous backheel assist to Henri Camara against Sweden in the round of 16 of the 2002 World Cup. Despite injuries that hampered his European career, he enjoyed the absolute confidence of Bruno Metsu, who saw in him a rare and indispensable talent.
Now a coach, Thiaw applies these human qualities to management. His former teammates recognize him as an heir to the "[Bruno] Metsu Method": he prioritizes dialogue and individualized management, knows how to adapt his approach to both young players and experienced veterans, and takes his players under his wing to gain their commitment. Aware that football is 90% mental, he relies on constant communication to understand his team's mindset before focusing on tactics. Under his leadership, the Lions have adopted a more attacking strategy, reflecting his experience as a striker.

On est pas nostalgique a ce point nak quoi. 2002 c'est le passé. Les supporters d'aujourd'hui n'étaient même pas nés. 🤷🏽♂️
Coach Diaw est un bon seulement je souhaiterai qu'il agisse un peu plus tôt concernant ses remplacements
Leurs donner du temps pour mieux métamorphosé la partie.par exemple cet après-midi il beaucoup tarder à reposer I.sarr et Jackson N.je souhaiterais que Ibrahima MBaye ,cheikh NDiaye et Tidiane aient un bon temps de jeu.
